Deathwatch Mission 4: The Purging of Pellor 2/2

The team entered the underground tunnels and immediately began pushing for the Vendetta Hangar to get them off-world.

Brother Escalus used his Psy-Augury to sense the safest route and the team moved across a nearby catwalk overlooking the tram tunnels.

They were soon spotted by a traitor guard patrol and came under fire, seeing brother Algrim take a wound. Brother Oleg returned fire and slaughtered the Traitors. All of the noise alerted some nearby stealers which charged at the catwalks from two sides.

A passing train coupled with surface born warp-quakes caused the catwalks to begin to rip apart, hurling Brother Escalus to the rails far below. The rest of the team hurried on through the tunnels and reached the Vendetta bay, heavily guarded by Traitors.

The team slaughtered the guard, leaving no man standing, and Brother Oleg powered the Vendetta just as additional Stealers and a Broodlord crashed through the doors. Brother Escalus clambered into the facility and took the Stealers head on to allow his squadmates to board the Vendetta unmolested.

The combat was fierce, and brother Escalus' bolter-arm was sheered clean off, as well as a Stealer's talon becoming lodged into his thigh. Escalus was able to beat down his assailants just as the Broodlord loomed for the killing blow.

The Broodlord roared but was cut short as Oleg brought the Vendetta around and opened fire with its on-board Las Cannons, shredding the Broodlord and saving his comrade.

The team exfiltrated with Tech-Adept Sol and Brother Redden who bequeathed to Escalus his Exceptionally Crafted Bolter, 'Scelus'.

The team is currently en-route to Watch Fortress Erioch to debrief and heal.

Deathwatch DiY Chapter: War Souls

I made a slight change to the coloring, since the green/red scheme was looking too much like a Dark Angel.

I converted and base-painted 5 jump marines, using pre-heresy assault torsos and some Blood Angel vet armor. I re-painted an unused DA Drop Pod and darkened up the DA Green with some WS olive green, then weathered it.

Lastly, their heavy support, an unused DA Chaplain Dread was repurposed and re-colored to match the team.

In game, the Kill Team recovered some WS artefacts, and as a sign of their gratitude Brother Algrim was given a Bond Brother Token; he can summon the WS at any time for support.

Deathwatch Mission 4: The Purging of Pellor 1/2

A High-Level distress signal was received from the pleasure world of Pellor. A full Tyranid incursion coupled with civil unrest lead to a full blown civil war.

Tech Adept Sol Malus is requesting extraction from the planet, as he was privy to classified information that needs to get into the hands of the Ad-Mech Reps aboard the Ark-Mechanicus Veneratos, guarding the Jericho Reach Gate.

The Team was spearheaded into battle via drop pod and quickly located the tech adept, and his bodyguard, Dark Skulls Brother Redden.

Brother Algrim gained remote control of the bunker facilities Vulcan Mega-Bolter and was able to clear a swath to the underground tram access.

As they moved across the city square the Team came under sniper fire, wounding brother Redden and killing two Senior Officers that were accompanying the team. As brother Escalus attempted to flank the sniper, he was ambushed by a fanatical traitor guard squad. Escalus put down the threat as brother Algrim located the sniper and put a bolt shell through his skull.

The team located the tram access hatch and entered the underground tunnel network.

Deathwatch Mission 3: The Hunters of Noros

The team was tasked with a diplomatic mission; establish contact with the Tau and ensure their cooperation.

The team landed at the main barracks controlled by Praetor Gojin, who sent the team across the Spierarch Fields to rendezvous with 'Brightsword'. En route, the team was ambushed by a Spiera and Spierarch, but was able to fight their way through, killing the matriarch.

Contact was established with Brightsword and his Cadre without incident.

Deathwatch Mission 2: Sovereign

The team was dispatched to Sovereign. Their Mission: Infiltrate the main citadel and place a Kill Ship Marker within.

Sovereign was once a bristling Imperial Mecca, but as forces retreated from the Reach ca. M37 it slowly ground into disarray.

More recent probes have discovered total chaos. Due to the coming Crusade, it was deemed that the planet should simply be cleansed.

The team was dropped via modified LandSpeeder Storm, Celer Mortem and began by removing two traitor guard sentries near a post on the outskirts of the ruinous city. The team moved to flank the nearby Hydra batteries when foot soldiers spotted brother Oleg in transit. The team quickly put down the traitor guard as Brother Lexicanium Escalus summoned the power of the warp, coupled with his Blood Frenzy to carve a hole into the hydra, setting it aflame. This attracted the attention of the nearby guard and a Traitor Russ which opened up on brother Escalus.

Brother Oleg used the distraction to move swiftly to the lander and hijack a traitor Valkyrie and opened fire on the enemies, killing the massive Ogryn Mutant standing guard, as well as a second Hydra.

Brother Algrim took up the kill ship marker from brother Escalus and charged head long for the main Citadel. Brother Algrim placed the marker within the citadel just as an Alpha Legion Traitor Marine revealed himself and moved on his position.

Brother Oleg swept across the courtyard within the Valkyrie and opened fire on the exposed Alpha Legionaire, banishing him to the warp.

Hydra air defenses opened fire on the Hydra but were unable to find their mark.

Brother Escalus made one last psychic attack, unleashing hellfire on a squad of Traitor guard that were closing in.

The team exfiltrated without incident and has filed a report under DWKT2:M2:Sovereign_Purge

The Kill Ship was dispatched, Sovereign cleansed and Mechanicum Terraforming Units have begun revitalizing the planet.

I created a Black Templar goodie-bits-bag for my buddy (Nid Player) to work on his Deathwatch character over the holiday. The plan is to create basic marines for each player character that will grow and gradually earn additional honors that will be modeled on as we go.

Wrapped in a tabard made from the purest silk in the Imperium, lies the =][= Deathwatch Pauldron.

Also, check out these finecast DW marines. I plan to use these as 'Squad 1', the veterans at the same outpost as the players. These will be a competing squad in a sense, that will provide backup for larger missions.

Deathwatch Game1 v.0 - Success!

Takeaways:

Marines were standard, except WS5 (Black Templar Buff), and 5 Wounds. This also included Critical Damage, but only one marine of three ended up dropping to zero wounds. 5Wounds seems about right, but might be bumped up as high as 10, most likely for the next playtest.

Their Bolters were 40inch, Assault 2, or 40 inch 4 shots, but could not move or do anything else. Snake Eyes would Jam, but boxcars = sustained attack and rolled an extra dice. Bolters also roll 2D6 to wound and take high. Basically, if a stealer is hit, it dies.

Players were given 1 action per turn, which essentially came down to move 6 (Half), shoot once (half) or not move and shoot twice.

-Marines coherency is increased to 12in, and can also break into solo mode.

-Shooting into melee is OP.
-there was too little cover/terrain. The table (standard 4x6 played lengthwise) should be as dense as possible
-40in range on a bolter is too far, 24 is probably about right
-shooting while in cc is OP. You have a better chance to shoot and wound in CC than swing with a melee weapon.
-stealers move 12, so their diff terrain should be (3d6 take high)x2
-Should throwing a grenade count as a half action or full?
-What is a marines game state if he runs out of wounds?

-Use of Space Hulk Style blips should be used to help conceal the enemies, and only once LOS is drawn to them, their numbers are revealed. This could also be interpreted as the Auspex sweep, with rough horde magnitudes indicating the size and direction and let the players decide which to engage, etc.

-Some sort of visual ammo/clip counter should be used to speed up counting and tracking your shots.

-make a cheat sheet that clearly details the Game Sequence

-Three uber marines chewed through 30 stealers, but the table was prety open. One marine was reduced to zero wounds. Stealers did not have rending. (Would have killed him on the first assault)

I spent a good chunk of last night and this morning making a cheat sheet and some rules mods. Basically this is DW lite or 40k RPG. Uses rules from both, the main diff is you only control your single (5w) marine, of 5. You get all of the DW bells and whistles with 40K simplicity and D6 systems.

Things have really slowed down and I have no interest in 40K atm. Between work heating up, 2 kids, holidays and MW3, there is no hobby time. Rather than miss a DEC1 post, I will do a nothing post now. See you in 2012. Good news though, I got a new iphone4s today.

I was also lucky enough to play the Diablo 3 beta, good stuff! Not nearly long enough, and it def brought back that OCD feeling of loot gathering.

Started to paint and weather this finally, about a year later. Rear pic is a little blurry but I put it up just so people can see what the rear looks like. Also, Skyshield and DW Marines for comparison.

It is split with half painted silver, in the same vein that the Deathwatch paint a Silver Arm. I still need to clean up the weathering and add some more details, purity seals, gold trim, and try to squeeze some red on here somewhere.

TFD: Deathwatch with Fire Wasp

I picked up the Finecast Sternguard to convert into Deathwatch a while back, and finally got around to adding all of the bits and converting them properly. This batch I really wanted to push the Special Forces feel of the Deathwatch. More gear, more doodads. They all have an etched brass =][=, and the sarge has a converted Vox Booster/Teleport homer for a backpack.

The Fire Wasp is a small drone equipped with flamer to scout ahead of DW teams during boarding or CQC situations.

My light box is about 50% set up, so the pics are still a little dark.

The loose fluff so far is that Nids are attacking an Imperial World on the outskirts of the Reach. Local IG forces have moved to entrench and engage with support from Grey Knights. The Deathwatch has their own agenda and have infiltrated the Basilica to escort a 'VIP' off world and out of the system.

All of the commotion has stirred up a nearby Ork horde that quickly jumps into the fray.

That Fateful Day

That Fateful Day (TFD) is a new and ongoing series detailing the Apocalypse Terrain, some fluff and backstory, and related army (Deathwatch, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights) painting and converting.

I have been in love with the Deathwatch since day one. The recent release of the Deathwatch RPG has only poured fuel on the fire. The events around the Jericho Reach are fantastic and perfectly summarizes what the Ordo Xenos and Deathwatch are all about. Props to Fantasy Flight for creating a unique and fantastic RPG and its accompanying fluff. (Ok so maybe the game needs some balancing and tweaks, but its still great).

I have reviewed all of the DW expansions if you are interested in poking around and don't actually want to play/read them, and have a rough draft of a Deathwatch campaign on a wiki. The upcoming Apocalypse game will be based on places and events in and around the Jericho Reach for some added depth and breadth.

I will likely be using the Leviathan in this upcoming game as well, so be sure to check it out.

Terrain Party!

We spent a couple of nights working on terrain for an APOCALYPSE game. Some are new and some are fixer-uppers.

All are mounted on 2x2 boards to create some modularity and mimic the GW game board. The good thing is you have unique terrain every game, the bad thing is you have a very clear 2x2 grid laid out in front of you.

Currently the board is roughly 4x6 standard, but we will build it up closer to 8x8 or larger depending on our final lists.

All of it is in varying states of completion, but you get the gist =)

Magic: The Gathering

I also play a ton of magic. I play more magic than 40K Hobbying/gaming combined. I play about 2 hrs/day.

I am currently playing Modern, since I despise and always will despise Standard. Classic/Vintage is fun, when you go first. I play Tezz and $T4K$, and SuperGro when I dont want people to quit turn 1 or 2.

We have started a magic league here at work, and it is going pretty well so far. It is pretty mixed but most of the guys (9/10) are casual.

I am currently playing a Big Red variant using Wildfire and UW Tron copied from the Starcitygames Open. I also have a Tooth and Nail deck with Emrakul and Blightsteel Colossus as targets, a fun/casual Mono-Blue Grand Architect deck that uses Lodestone Golem, Metamorph, and Steel Hellkite.

Finished this last night. What a great book. First Heretic was good but Abnett is the greatest. This book is fantastic, and completely changes my outlook on wolves.

My only gripe(s) was all of the 'I know your name' nonsense, and if I had a penny for every 'black pinned yellow eye' reference, I'd be rich.

I thought it was pretty clever how he was simultaneously telling Bears story.

2000 Orks vs. Wolves

Played a semi-rematch against the Orks that literally rolled my GK's. The Obj are in the opposite corners of deployment. This is my new fav game type.Turns 1-3 The fangs cannot manage a glance on the wagons and nothing else is LOS.Njals wipes out a loota squad with Tempest over 2 turns.T3One scout squad outflanks into the Loota squad and wupes them out, the other one shows up on my top right corner to aid a Hunter Squad and the LF RBack getting side shots on wagons.

T4Huge melee ensues in the middle with 3 wagons of boys, nobs, warboss against 6 TWC and 18 Hunters. I lose the Assault to multiple PK attacks on his turn which leaves him open to shooting.

T5 I pull a hunter squad out and dash for the corner obj.The middle squad (Njals) in abour a 1/2 vinch shy of the center obj.he is currently holding the top right, but I tank shock w the rback into a warboss, he fails and gets squished.

T6We roll up T6 so I am able to get the middle obj uncontested and win 2-0.

Batrep 2k Tau vs. DE

My first game against the new DE and I made some mistakes. My dice were pretty bad as well, I think 9 crisis managed a single glance in 3 turns. I was mostly tabled by turn 4 save the two fish in reserve.

We played a Battle Missions scenario, with three objectives, quarters. There was an obj center, and one in each corner opposite deployment.

I turtled in the cover-thin corner and lost a lot early. He was on mop up on T3/4.

I hoped to get a turn 6 tank shock to clear him off the center but the game ended on 5, 2:1 DE.

DE match up really well against Tau as everything insta-gibs crisis/Broads and HHead easily get glanced. (In case you didn't know =)

Last minute I switched out gun drones on the crisis for pathfinders since I like being able to remove cover saves, but alas it bit me in the ass.

Custom Hydras

As part of a planned repaint for my IG, I've finally gotten around to putting these together. In all it's about a 10min conversion. You just need the Autocannon from the Aegis Line and some 1-1.5inch long plasticard tubes (plastictubes?). I added the Aquila radar from the command tank sprue and a hatch on top. Turrets are magnetized since they are pretty flimsy. I also added a small bit of sprue to sit between the cannons on each side for them to rest on and maintain their angle. The turret is mounted on the standard Chim mounting so it sits forward slightly but I think it looks great, and much much better with the barrel extensions over the standard Aegis autocannon.

This is a second attempt, the first was using much thicker tube and it looked terrible.

I'm still kind of stuck though, since I want my chims to double as IG and GK chims, but want to keep the black paint job for the GK/=][= versions. What a dilemma! =)

Tau/Tourney
Spent about an hour tonight getting my TAU set up for a local tourney here on Sat, 2k points. There is nothing that says the Tourney is WYSIWYG, already a bad sign, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I'm teetering on either 3 Kroot w hounds and 1 fish, or 2 and 2, losing some upgrades on the army or nixing a couple Crisis. I know I will want the added mobility of the second fish, but it is hard to cut anything and the third Kroot wall will be nice if I have to cover edges.

Steel Legion
I got a basecoat on my Dust Tactics Germans that I am converting into Steel Legion.
I plan to fix up the entire IG army over the next month or so, in-between finishing off the TWC.

Played a 1750 Orks vs IG today. Curious how you would play it. I find that the ol' two objective game almost always ends in a tie. My IG is a little rusty, and it is not really an optimized list. It is good, but not great. So have a read, and let me know what you would do differently/where I went wrong. (List not included =)

I move all 3 Vendettas up the right flank to get clear LOS into the kans at the top/front. I use orders to force him to reroll Mek Cover on the Kans. Shooting is pretty ineffective, I kill a few boys, I think makes all cover saves and I scatter some wide.

T2 Orks
He pushes and runs everything up through mid.

T2 IG
I pop a kan, knock a rokkit off one, and shake one. Combined Russ blasts take about 10 boys out, he makes some cover saves and I scatter 1 wide. I manage to land a blast on a Mek boy, he dies. I figure I can wipe the whole flank at this point, no prob.

The PCS moves out 12 on the left flank, disembarks the melta cmd squad and pops a Deff Dread that was out of Mekboy range. Combined Russ fire nabs about 10 boys. Vendettas pops another Kan and the other Deff Dread.

Lootas pop a Vendetta.

I flat out attempting to contest in his zone, but I realize there is nowhere to park the Vendetta even close.

HF on the Russ, and chims melt all of the boys.

So I am wondering how you would have played it? Was I too conservative? I was thinking maybe I could have pushed out with two chims and the vendettas to try and break through mid on one of the flanks, using melta and las to break the Kan wall, then blasts on the boys behind.

I havent quite finished setting up the Workshop since the move so the pics are pretty poorly lit, but you get the gist of the weathering. I discovered much to my chagrin, that dullcote/varnish will wash away a good portion of your weathering powder, as seen on the rhinos, and they should be sealed with pigment sealer first.

I picked up the skull at ComicCon, pretty sweet, even if it just sits on the shelf.

I picked up another three-pack of Bloodcrushers, two Fantasy Resin cast Khorne Lords, Malagor, and a Beast Lord to finish off my World Eaters, but sadly I have outgrown my case.

I spent a good chunk of last night reordering and rearranging but the Juggies just wouldnt fit. (I have 9 now). So I swapped them out with my IG, and crammed 4 Russ, 3 Chims, 3 Vendetta into the old metal case and the entire WE army into my Sabol with a figure case strapped to the top.

I need to finish painting the second Daemon Prince, some Lost Souls (Scouts) and Havocs but the army is pretty much done.

I built a fun list and knew going in I would get destroyed. It didnt help that his list was actually pretty good. He hadnt won in a while and I've found that letting new players win keeps them around longer.

Ven dread disembarked from the raven double flamers a boys squad that had disembarked to charge the GKSS. They are wiped out.

The dread takes a kopta missile in the back, he rolls a 6 on damage, I have him reroll. 6 again. poof.

I move the other Raven back towards the BW to block movement to the disembarked GKSS in my end, and drop the Dread.

I pop a truk w MM and charge w double flamers, wiping them out. I am hoping to contest my way into a tie but its looking grim.

Boys pop out of a wagon and charge the dread, they grind for the next two turns.
He consolidates everything around a central objective save one wagon which pushes into my point, and a truk that pulls back into his point.

Raven flat-outs over to the point to contest in case the game ends.

Wipes a GKSS that was in the central Raider to free up the center point.
Wipes a GKSS in my end to free that point.

Raven turbo boosts to the central to contest, though I have no way of getting to the point in my end.

The ven dread double flamers the boys in his end. clearing the point.

Central point is contested, but he has one in my end

Weathering Techniques

Quick steps for some extreme weathering:

1. Primer
2. preshade
3. base coat
4. hairspray
5. lightened base coat
6. wet the model and chip away the paint from step 5.
7. wash once the model is dry.
8. powders applied with white spirits.
9. Powder sealer
10. Dullcote or varnish.

I've never used the salt technique but I love the results. It is similar to the hairspray effect in terms of applying the mask and removing the painted parts.

Termies+Lib diembark, shoot and multi-charge the Hive Guard that are now separated from the rest of the group. I kill all of the Guard with HHand+FW on halberds/hammer. (2 Squads) 5-2.

T5 Nids
The Tyrant makes it to the assault, albeit late. He mostly whiffs and the hammer connects. Boom. Dead. Done. Man that was awesome and game changing. If the Tyrant was able to wipe the Termies+Libby it would have been a lot closer.

We roll up T6 and the termies are on cleanup, I net another KP on Guard and a last one to put it out of reach on spawned gaunts.

T6 Nids
The Terv is too far from the GKSS to assault but nets one with a blast.

Slow going on the update front but I'm not without progress. I've only been able to get about an hour every other day in at the workshop but I'm loving the time I do get.

Lion's Pride
I have touched up the Lion's Pride and they are just about finished. I used an ivory to lighten them up after a wash and I think I will leave them with that.

I let these idle just long enough for the GKT bits to be released, so I replaced their arms with the GKT arms and TH and they look 10x better. Funny how a little laziness paid off big.

I dug out my old metal GKTermies and stripped them down, seven in total to make up a second GKT squad since I have been itching to play a Knightwing. I replaced their arms with the new plastics and they don't look half bad. I touched up the Paladin/Termies last night with a little extra gold trim, I just need to finish the beases and they should be gtg.

I'm also working on some DCA but I don't really like the models (LoTR) so I am sort of idling on those until something better comes along. Has anyone seen good DCA replacements? Maybe I could use some Dark Eldar as a base and convert them.

CSM/Demons
The second DP got a little greenstuff love over the weekend so I am bouncing back and forth, but he still needs a lot of work to bring him up to snuff.

The last 3 juggernauts are also waiting to get finished up as well as some Havocs/Long Fangs. I dont really like how they turned out so they will need some rework as well.

I lost pretty handily today in a 1K against a buddy. Kill Points, Quarters. I am glad he won. He hasn't won since his first ever game a few months ago. I could tell by the gleam in his eye and his smile he was pretty excited. We called the game due to time (Lunch Game) but he was up 6 to 2 on KP's. I did have 2x DP left that were planning on eating up a terv, a gaunt and some Hive Guard, but I probably wouldn't have broken even.

Perusing the blogosphere my eye caught an image that immediately reminded me of the old Epic Hellbore. So I decided I'll make a Hellbore roughly the same scale as the Leviathan, using a Baneblade chassis as its base. It will definitely be a tricky kitbash as I want to find existing bits to make it as painless as possible.

First night back in the shop

First night actually painting in the new pad. I set up the workshop first thing but alas life/boxes and work slowed me down. I picked up the masters of the chapter box for some deathwatch conversions not wanting to wait for the finecast. I prob should have waited.

Picked up a fire prism turret bit so the eldar army will be playable in the near future.

Lastly the actual painting. I touched up some deathwing that I had started to switch over to thss but best of all took another pass at the lions pride. I had been putting these off for a while not wanting to screw them up. But like all things in life they will only improve with hard work and dedication. They are so much better now with only an hour of work into them that I am really looking forward to finishing them up finally and getting them onto the table.

I am teetering on what to do next, either finish up the gk's/ deathwatch or fix up a terrible batch of long fangs and finish the second daemon prince.

In gaming news the group here is really picking up steam playing their first 2k last weekend so my ultimate goal of building up to apocalypse is nearing completion. Mwuaha'ah. :p

I was able to get a couple games in over the holiday weekend despite working a good chunk of it and soaking about 20 hours into Mass Effect 2.

I flat out the piranhas to squelch the skulls.
Railguns immobilize and knock the arms off one dread.
He fires the other dread at a broad squad but they make their saves.

I pen the second dread and he explodes.

T3
I have nothing to shoot.
He gets both GKSS and DS them onto my left flank where 2 piranha, 2 Broads and a kroot squad sit in cover. The Kroot take the hit from one squad and fall off the board. The broads take the hit from the other squad and I lose one, but he holds his ground.

T4
Combined fire wipes out one GKSS.
He downs both piranhas.

T5
I kill a few from the last GKSS, I think he is left with 5 or so. They are isolated away from anything though.

The Termies elect to DS directly into my midst, I left a tiny pocket as bait, and he took it. He scatters into my Kroot bubble, and loses the unit on Mishap.

I win 1-0 with some Fire Warriors playing it safe and staying out of range, but short of a second point.

Not wanting to really 'win' like that, we elect to play it out for fun. I let him choose to DS again, this time to the Main LOS blocking terrain at the center of the table w an OBJ at the center. He lands and shrouds, I am unable to kill enough termies to force him off in two more turns, on bottom of 7 he charges all 6crisis + 2 shas and wipes them out w Halberds+Banner @ I6. ew.

I played ok, not great. If he had been a little more conservative w the Termie DS and more agressive w the GKSS DS he would have had it easy.

Game 2 Nids
Kill Points, Halves

Pretty good list, much better than previous, 9 Hive Guard I think, ouch.

This game went really quick. I set up to be able to fire everything at whatever side he decides to come around on the central LOS blocking terrain.

Turns 1-5 I shoot up everything except his Tyrant w Guard and go up quickly something like 6-1. His Hive Guard are tucked behind the central cover and the Tyrant charges into the Tau lines. The Tyrant makes short work of everything and soaks up a ton of damage, I manage to hit with fewer and fewer plasma shots, damn spineless Tau. lol.

He closes the gap quickly, something like 8-6 on turn 7. He elects to charge the last broads w the Tyrant and shoot Crisis with the Hive Guard. The Tyrant wipes the broads but the crisis hold.

Had he played it a little different, he might have been able to to net a 9-8 win, but he would have had to have killed 2 broads with 2 or 3 Hive Guard then charged the crisis with the Tyrant, and shoot/kill some Kroot.

I still need some Prism Cannons for my Eldar FP's to wrap them up.

Looks like we are going to have a pretty good turnout for the weekend game, probably 1500+ points with multiple games each.

I've also roped in some more players here at work so the 'club' is growing. woot.

Also, another guy saw the Dark Heresy book on my desk and had been planning on starting a game, so I've got that going for me ;)

Deathwatch RPG - Missions

I've drafted some extremely rough missions for an upcoming Deathwatch Campaign.

The basic plan here is to use 40K rules almost entirely with some additions from the DW Main Rulebook.

I think a conversion of 1m = 1inch will work ok, though it might be a tad long, as a Marine in full sprint could run 24 inches (But hey, maybe not too far off from 6th Ed Rumors =). I am going to use it for simplicity's sake since the group is not all that comfortable with 40K yet, so using as simple a conversion as possible will help some.

My main hurdle right now is balancing the wounds and the enemies. Clearly 20+ wounds for a single Marine is way too good, so maybe a variation of movie marines (3 or so per) plus the addition of DW RPG Cover/bonuses etc will balance it out. For example, a single DWKT member could get a bonus to their armor save if in cover, similarly if they are bracing or aiming they could get a bonus to BS up to 5 or even BS6 granting a reroll.

My initial guesstimates on enemies are doubling the enemy points to the DWKT. So for example, a 5man Sternguard squad is about 160, so fighting 300+ points of kroot or fire warriors isn't unreasonable. Couple this with the option to call in a Stormraven Strike (In later missions) or close air support to take out a HHead, then we have ourselves some fun and unique Multiplayer action for the group.

As for the missions, I have set this in the Northern Sectors of the Jericho Reach, along the edges of both Tau and Tyranid space in a sector called Nadeec. As for the timeline, it is sometime after the Damocles Crusade so somewhere between 750-990.

Trade lines along the Nadeec Route have been hijacked.
Discover the threat and report on it.

Video Games - Space Marine and Kill Team

I played both at E3 and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately the Kill Team Dev Team has been axed and the studio slowly closing.

Space Marine was fantastic and I'm happy to say far exceeded my expectations. The bolter felt right and the gameplay was great. I cannot wait for this game now, whereas before I was extremely skeptical.

The demo allowed you to choose either fighting orks or chaos, though when I grabbed the controller it was already starting the ork campaign, I would have chosen Chaos, as seeing bloodletters in-game was awesome. They nailed it.

DPad let you select plasmagun, Frag Launcher, Bolter, Bolt Pistol. With the Bolt pistol equipped you could dual wield w the chainsword. X and B were melee and execute respectively. mashing X did a combo. The plasmagun had a nice feature to vent it when it began to overheat using the reload button.

Y was a sort of power up stomp that I didnt use, nor did I run (didnt know you could) but instead I rolled everywhere. =/

The orks felt good and were fun to kill, I did not however play the Chaos level.

You and two squadmates are dropped into an Orky held area, looks like they are salvaging a Titan Defence laser or turbo or something. You fight you way through a couple of areas with hordes of Orks coming at you.

I tried a couple of different approaches, but my fav was sitting back and slowly moving away from the orks while I fired bolter rounds, and once they were close enough, I switched to Chainsword and charged in. This felt really great!

There are also grenades and ammo pickups scattered around, I really have no gripes with this game and in fact cant wait to pick it up. It felt kind of like gears minus cover, thank god.

The Chaos level though I did see that you are wielding a power axe instead, and if you pick up Kill Team, you get the Power Sword instead of the CS.

Kill Team
Fun but nothing mind blowing. Got a little repetitive. The vid pretty much shows it off. The more kills you get the more you power up and then let off a super attack based on your class. There is a Libby, Sternguard, Vanguard, Tech and something else I think. I played Vanguard and a random guy I played w played the Libby. The VV special was a sort of turbo boost/knock down where he jets around killing everything he touches. Not sure what the Libby's did, but everything died when he used it. Some sort of Psy-shock attack.

I started chattin up the guy I was playing with and he is a 40K fanatic as well, it was pretty cool shootin the breeze while maiming orks.

Daemon Prince - Painting 75% ?

Blocked in colors and washed.
I still plan to add some spiky bits to his greaves and finish painting the skull chain. The sword needs love to make it a bit more fiery and the wings/chains need touchups as well as the red edging on all of the blackened armor plates.

All in all I am pretty happy with how he turned out and have started on hsi brother.

Its nota cheap kitbash, but you could probably do it for cheap. The main piece is the Dreadknight sans arms, the rest could be built with bits, and the wings are the GW LOTR Balrog wings.

I've had my dremel for over 5 years and I can't live w/o it.

I picked up an airbrush in March, and there is simply no comparison between traditional brush and airbrush painted miniatures, especially vehicles. It is so drastically different that I am considering re-doing my non-airbrushed armies.

That said, there is also a huge gap both in time and skill level from when I started to where I am now, so that is also a factor.

750 GK vs. Nids

Played a double Raven build vs. Nids today. We played a Battle Mission with an 18in NML middle/Kill Points.

I deploy both Ravens on the board behind a Skyshield.
He Seizes.

Hive Guard shoot up the Ravens. I lose MM on one raven, and the other is shaken but saved by Fort. One Terv poops out on T1.

I fly both Ravens into the middle of the board.
On my shooting I wipe a squad of Hive Guard on 3 rends from the AC + failed saves on Hurricanes.

I kill one Hive Guard in the other squad.

T2
all of the Gaunts push middle.
Hive Guard Stuns one of the Ravens which takes a perils on the Fort test but I roll a 1. The other Terv poops out on 2.

On my turn I drop off the GKSS in the Stunned Raven to try and draw him away from it. They disembark near cover then move into it and net a KP by gunning down guants in shooting.

The other Raven kills the Hive Guard.

T3
He pushes forward w both Tervs and Gaunts, and kills a marine in cover.

I move the shaken raven away 12.
I kill more Gaunts for a KP w the GKSS. (4-0) and put one wound on the prime and one wound on a Terv.

T4
Nid shooting does nothing, but the Terv gets into CC w the GKSS in cover and kills 2.
I whiff on my FW attacks.

Combined shooting kills the prime (5-0) and wounds the other Terv which is just out of charge range.

T5
Combat is drawn and the game ends, 5-0.

Been swamped w life the last couple weeks, but I did manage to finish both GK Storm Ravens, most of the TWC/Juggernauts and wrapped up the Tale of Many Gamers army. I should be able to win it w/o extra credit (paint an IC) but I will do it anyway, since I already have a Kharne Painted.

I played a 750 w the World Eaters yesterday against my Tau list. Pictures came out terrible but I was able to table except for the HHead on 5. Was 2 objectives, quarters.

I deployed behind a Skyshield to prep for turn 4 and 5 charges into the lines.
I lost a Rback on T1 so that 5man tac ran into cover to claim my objective.

We closed on our house in Carlsbad, so I am moving at the end of the month. I cannot wait, it's been almost a year of looking around and living out of half-packed boxes which sucks, plus an hour commute 1way. I stoked to have a house again and a dedicated game room/table area.

Picked this up yesterday before the price hike on SAT.

Also took a pass at my Iyanden Eldar, and man does airbrushing foundation paints suck. Despite watering them down to the point of them being unuseable, it still clogged up the airbrush.

Just curious if anyone has played Khornate 2++ Deamons vs. GK's yet, and if Quake rapes you as badly as I would imagine?

I'm just about finished with the GK's, the Wolves are mostly done so it is time I moved on to the next project.

I washed all of my nids last night with the airbrush and will take another pass this weekend, but I will be starting on the Eldar next. I had an Alaitoc army previously and loved the color scheme, but I think I am going to switch to Iyanden this time for a couple reasons: I want something that will pop on the table and my new airbrush will really help getting a nicely painted yellow army done quickly. I like their fluff, and since my Nids are Kraken, it will just support the fluff if/when I fight my own armies.

Daemons 40k

I have most if not all of the pieces to turn my world eaters/wolves into a C:D army. I've converted a Skulltaker on Juggernaut and really only need the daemon princes. I will likely convert a dreadknight into one and probably a warsphinx as a second. Both will have the balrog wings for flight/aesthetics.

I've never played as demons but now is as good a time as any to learn, since gk are prevalent and using a weaker army against new players will help me learn. Plus 2++ EW is never bad. Lol.

Training 750 World Eaters vs. Tyranids

I thought for sure he had this one. I was playing Wolves for only the 3rd time or so, and he had a much better list than previous.

I get an early charge on the infilitrating stealers with the Lord, and consolidate into cover. He charges the next turn with the other squad of stealers but I weather the storm and wipe them out.

The RBacks take pot shots on the Gaunts.

The Lord pretty much cleans up as the other TWC push mid and split up to take a prime and the terv.

All three consolidate onto the lone Hive Guard with a wound on them each on T5. Note the dicey sad face =)

Training Day 750's

Getting a game every day at lunch now against several new guys. Fun stuff and a lot of variety. We now have, Nids, Orks, GK's and Tau.

I played 750 Tau vs GK's today against a guy that hasn't played in years but has a CSM army and is picking up GK's. He deployed in the open, so it was a rough game for him.

I won 5-2 on KP's though I gave him the 2 by parking my Crisis in the open. I netted 2 RBacks, Dread, INQ and Henchmen. Game ended on T5, though I prob would have tabled him the next turn as the Crisis and Kroot were all set to mop up the last 5 man GKSS.

Also played a GK's vs Nids and won, though it is not about winning right now, just getting them to learn the rules. (My GK's are undefeated though! lol =P)

The good thing about work lockdown is you get a little time to reflect. I've been on a 40K tear this year. Lots of progress but few blog updates. I will get some pics up tonight or tomorrow.

Started in Dec/Jan, the force is almost done.
I just added 4 more Juggernauts including a converted Skulltaker.
The last of the Long Fnags/Havocs needs paint but other than that the army is done and rocking a hefty 2000+ points.
Not bad for 5month considering the following.

Updated and split from my =][= force.
Touched up some henchmen/IST.
New Coteaz was based today and primed tonight.

A few highlights"
5 objectives
Terv poops out on T1
3x Warriors hold the center OBJ despite taking full fire for 3 rounds, by going to ground and making all of the 4+.

I made one critical mistake though as I drove away from one OBJ in order to capture another on T5, leaving an OBJ contested in my end. Had I stayed and combined fire I would have likely cleared my position. Worse yet, I was well within range to claim on my turn, however I played for T6. Had I disembarked then ran I would have made it into range.

Had he moved the Terv on a far obj he would have won 1-0 on 5.

Instead I drove away, combined fire on the Prime, but the Gaunts remained in contest range.

The Terv charged and exploded the Russ.

We drew.

Training Day 500+ Nids vs. Dark Angels

I have started playing with a co-worker here 2x/week. This is great, the only downside is the game sizes @ roughly 500+ still take the whole lunch hour.

We played about 600 points, killpoints. I took a few less points.

I only nabbed two pics. Deployment and pretty much the end game. It came down to the fex being unable to wipe that tac squad so I won 4-3 on the bottom of 6. He would have likely won had it gone to 7 as the fex only had to kill the Sarge, and the Terv was locked with the Combat Squad with the ML.

This guy is a quick study and we have already played about 6 games and are slowly bringing more into the fold.

Tragedy befalls the Grey Knights

In an attempt to make a small mithril highlight I sprayed some Testors silver/chrome over the mostly finished 20x PAGK's. Unfortunately it just made a speckle coat instead.

I tried to wash them to cover it up but no luck. So I have re-primed and now re-boltgunned and washed. There has been some loss in detail but not too much.

Other than that the army is pretty much done except for the DreadKnight conversion, that thing is nigh-unsaveable.

Infinity

The Bliz Gaming Group switches games every so often, right now WarmaHordes is sweeping through and a few have shown interest in Infinity.

(I) has always interested me, especially the Masamune Shirow (Appleseed, Ghost, Dominion) art style. I've poked around the site in the past but finally picked up some models that can double for 40K units.

I picked up an Aleph Starter to count as =][= Assassins and DCA, as well as a Yaogat Infantry to count as some Tau Special Forces or Kroot Shapers or something.

I printed out the rulebook and it is a little daunting @ 185pp. I like the idea of smaller skirmish games and look forward to something fresh, though 40K will still be my #1, especially since I have a couple of coworkers interested and one playing.

Spent about 3 hours touching up odds and ends last night. I'm still trying to solve the mystery that is the Dreadknight, GW did not make it easy. The BT Ven is an older paintjob so I will need to touch him up.

Hmm, I see some flash... and the Reds are pretty saturated in these pics, they are not that bright.
